When Gabby told me she wanted her photoshoot in Candytopia, I was ALL IN. Candytopia is an immersive, candy-themed attraction. This one is located in Philadelphia, PA. Gabby wanted her senior portraits to be super cool, fun, and colorful.

Gabby and I came up with her hairstyle and eye makeup by creating a Pinterest mood board for the session. She did her own hair (space buns!) and it looked so good!

Candytopia is a very popular attraction. I went into the museum knowing that a lot of photos and selfies that others take there look exactly the same.

But I wanted to push the boundaries. My goal was to create images that were different than everyone else’s.

I love working with colorful, artificial lighting. A lot of their lighting changed colors too. I asked Gabby to stand very close to these lights to get these fun close-ups.

Instead of using a flash (which I brought in case), I used the colorful light to my advantage and used them as my only source of lighting here.

I continued using this method for the next images too! It was exciting to see that there were places in the museum that I never saw during my research. (I researched the location in advance to have an idea of what each room looked like).

Some of these areas had gone completely overlooked by other photographers and visitors.

There was one tiny room filled with these colored lights. We took our time getting these awesome shots before moving on to the next room.

The next location is actually a small mirror cube that you could peep into. I thought it was so beautiful. I posed Gabby intentionally for this shot. The final image came out amazing!

We continued our journey to the next room and captured Gabby in front of a ceiling full of chandeliers. This wide shot gives away which room we were in 😉

I always try to keep others in mind when shooting, not only my clients.

We were very aware that we were taking up space and we agreed that it wasn’t fair for us to hog up an area.

So, we would insist on letting others go ahead of us or between our shots so they could get the selfies they wanted.

It was a win-win situation. Gabby and I took breaks while everyone took their selfies.

Then, once the room cleared out we shot away with no other visitors or distractions in the background.

The final area of the museum was the marshmallow pit. It is a huge pit filled with squishy marshmallows made of foam. You have to take your shoes off and wait in line to get in.

I whipped out my flash and dove in with Gabby. We took over a little corner at the edge of the pit and we had so much fun. Finally, the pit experience ends with a “canon” firing tons of marshmallows into the air!
